Relying on the self-developed portable rock moisture collector, we carry out the determination of water content of fresh core samples from the well site, avoiding the error caused by the change of temperature conditions during the transportation and cutting of the samples.

In conjunction with porosity measurements of the same samples, water content data measured at the well site can be used to further calculate rock water saturation parameters.

Water samples collected at the well site by the Rock Water Gatherer can be further used for the analysis of the hydroxide isotope composition of water, and hydroxide isotopes of water can be used for the analysis of formation water genesis, formation connectivity studies, as well as studies related to the process of unconventional oil and gas development.
